NL SOCCER HOLDS AWARDS NIGHT

  Soccer Newfoundland and Labrador  held its awards night Friday night at the Holiday Inn  and induct eight new members into the Hall of Fame.   They include Denise Hickey, John McGrath, Clarence (Clar) Brooks, Fred (Butch) Reddy, Gerry O’Brien, Gord Dunphy, Philip Ruiz and Nels Wilkins.   In addition to the Ross Arlett award for Senior Official of the Year, awards will be handed out for the youth male and female officials of the year. GROWLERS LOSE REGULAR SEASON FINALE

  S U N D A Y   The Growlers regular season came to an end Sunday and they lost 4-3 to Maine in a shootout. Scott Pooley,Zach O’Brien and Evan Neugold scored for the Growlers. Neugold’s goal at 7:23 forced OT and then the shootout. S A T  U R D A Y   The Growlers fell 4-3 to the Worcester Railers in what would be their final trip to Worcester this season.   S U N D A Y  The Edge evened their best of five NBL basketball series with Sudbury Five Sunday with a 100-92 decision at Mile One before 3523 fans  to tie the series at a game apiece.   The Newfoundland Growlers handed out their awards for the past season Saturday night at Mile One.   Zack O’Brien was named the teams first Most Valuable Player for the season. O’Brien was the teams top scorer with 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points.   Adam Pardy was named the team’s top defenseman. He He had six goals and 21 assists in the 40 games he played during the regular season.   The rookie of year award went to Brady Ferguson who played in 47 games and scored 29 goals and added 28 assists for 57 points.  …
