ICE CAPS SEND TWO DOWN

Hockey/St. John's IceCaps

The St. John’s Ice Caps have sent two players down to the East Coast Hockey League. Fan favourite goaltender Eddie Pasquale and defenseman Travis Brown were sent down to Brampton Beast of the E-C-H-L. Both these players have one year two way American Hockey League contracts. Neither players dressed for the two road games for the Ice Caps.  …

MAJOR SOFTBALL ANNOUNCEMENT

  A major announcement made Sunday by Softball Newfoundland and Labrador. St. John’s will host the 2016 Canadian Men’s Senior Fast Pitch softball championships August 31st to September 4th. The top teams from across Canada will be in the City for these championships. The Newfoundland team the Galway Hitmen are the defending champions. Newfoundland has also won the championship the past four years. They will be looking for their fifth straight championship but this time before a home town crowd.  …

    Softball NL has announced its choices for coaches for the 2017 Canada Summer Games.     Paul Smith, Head Coach, Ladies Division   Paul brings many years of Playing and Coaching Experience to this position. In addition to coaching teams at various Eastern Canadian and National Championships over the past number of years he was also the Head Coach of the Ladies Canada Games teams in 2009 and 2013.     Vandals Captain Adam Hill accepts Sully Cup from John Collins, President of the NL Rugby Union     The St. John’s Vandals RFC won the Senior Men’s Provincial “B” Championship and the Sully Memorial Cup on Saturday defeating the Mt. Pearl Dogs 22 to 15 at the Torbay Rugby Pitch. For the Vandals, despite high winds and driving rain, Gregg Fraser managed to kick two conversions and a penalty goal while Jeff Aylward, Mike Rudofsky and Gud Bjarnason scored tries for the winners.
