The Clarenville Caribous will have a new coach behind the bench when they play in the provincial senior hockey league this season. Former team Captain Dustin Russell who retired at the end of last season as a player takes over the team from Ivan Hapgood. Hapgood has assumed the duties of General Manager a post held by Dustin’s father Fraser for the past number of years. Hapgood will also be an assistant coach with the team.…
The St. John’s Senior Men’s and Intermediate Men’s Fast Pitch Softball Leagues have named their players of the months of September and October In the senior league Centerfielder Brad Ezekiel of NTV Hitman takes the honours. In League play he went two for three with a home run during the end of the regular season. The St. John’s Ice Caps have sent two players down to the East Coast Hockey League. Fan favourite goaltender Eddie Pasquale and defenseman Travis Brown were sent down to Brampton Beast of the E-C-H-L. Both these players have one year two way American Hockey League contracts. A major announcement made Sunday by Softball Newfoundland and Labrador. St. John’s will host the 2016 Canadian Men’s Senior Fast Pitch softball championships August 31st to September 4th. The top teams from across Canada will be in the City for these championships. The Newfoundland team the Galway Hitmen are the defending champions. Newfoundland has also won the championship the past four years. They will be looking for their fifth straight championship but this time before a home town crowd. …
