DURNFORD WINS CAPE TO CABOT

    Ed Durnford was first across the finish line in the 2015 20 kilometre Cape to Cabot Road Race on Sunday. His winning time was 1:18.03. Mark Hayward finished second in 1:20.14.  Trevor Tracey was third with a time of 1:21.24     The first female to cross the finish line by Cabot Tower was Krissy Dooling in 1:32.34.  Melanie Irvine was second and her time was 1:23.17.Allison Hobeika was third in 1:33.47. Florence Barron at age 77 was the oldest finisher in this race. She finished the course in 2:07.07. 391 runners finished the event. The first female…

  Rookie centre Michael McCarron scored his  first hat trick as the St. John’s IceCaps thumped the Rochester Americans 6-2 Saturday night at Mile One Centre.  The IceCaps swept the two-game series. Christian Thomas scored for the second straight game and added two assists with Joel Hanley adding  a goal and an assist and Morgan Ellis a single. The St. John’s Ice Caps made two player movements on Friday. First they signed veteran Eric Neilson to a 25 game Professional tryout. He was originally drafted by the LA Kings in 2004. He played with the Syracuse Crunch last season and has one assist and 62 penalty minutes.   They also assigned right winger Stefan Fournier to Brampton Beast of the East Coast Hockey League.   S U N D A Y  Celtics defeated Trinity Placentia Flyers 8-5 in Junior action Sunday at Whitbourne. Scott Cahill and Graham Oldford combined for nine points in this game. Cahill scored two goals and two assists and Oldford two goals and three assists. Tyler Bennett had one goal and four assists Stephen Brown, Alex Snow and Brandon Bird singles.
