  Rookie centre Michael McCarron scored his  first hat trick as the St. John’s IceCaps thumped the Rochester Americans 6-2 Saturday night at Mile One Centre.  The IceCaps swept the two-game series. Christian Thomas scored for the second straight game and added two assists with Joel Hanley adding  a goal and an assist and Morgan Ellis a single. The St. John’s Ice Caps made two player movements on Friday. First they signed veteran Eric Neilson to a 25 game Professional tryout. He was originally drafted by the LA Kings in 2004. He played with the Syracuse Crunch last season and has one assist and 62 penalty minutes.   They also assigned right winger Stefan Fournier to Brampton Beast of the East Coast Hockey League. He played with Hamilton and Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL league last season.…

  S U N D A Y  The St. John’s Privateers get a split with the St. John’s Maple Leafs in their weekend major midget hockey league season games. Sunday the Privateers came away with a 3-1 decision.   S U N D A Y  Celtics defeated Trinity Placentia Flyers 8-5 in Junior action Sunday at Whitbourne. Scott Cahill and Graham Oldford combined for nine points in this game. Cahill scored two goals and two assists and Oldford two goals and three assists. Tyler Bennett had one goal and four assists Stephen Brown, Alex Snow and Brandon Bird singles.     Darrin O’Quinn has been elected president of the Corner Brook Baseball Association. He also will handle the position of treasurer for the league.
