  23 year old Brandon Hynes, a native of Norris Point continues to lead the Central West Hockey League scoring race at the half way point of the season. Norris, who is with the Corner Brook Royals, has 15 goals and 12 assists in 14 games for the Royals for 27 points. Just eight points behind are Cam Fergus of the Cataracts who hails from Brantford Ontario and Ryan Salvis of the Royals who comes from Toronto Ontario. Both players have 21 points. The Northeast Eagles will head into the Christmas Break in first place in the Avalon East Senior Hockey League. The Eagles skated to a 5-2 decision over the second place St. John’s Caps Monday night at the Goulds Arena. The St. John’s Junior Hockey League game at the Bay Arena scheduled for Friday night has been postponed because of a fire at the Arena.The Roebothan McKay and Marshall Avalon Capitals were to play the CBN Jr Stars. There was a fire in the electrical panel in the around the area of the ice compressor. Staff worked quickly and extinguished the fire.   Canada’s two senior soccer competitions – the men’s Challenge Trophy and women’s Jubilee Trophy – will return to St. John’s, Newfoundland Labrador in October 5 to 10, 2016. The two Sport Chek National Championship competitions return to Canada’s most eastern city for the first time since 2008.   The Sport Chek National Championships are Canada’s premier amateur soccer competitions, with provincial and territory winners pitted against each other at the senior and youth levels on the national stage.
