Team Bill Jenkins sits atop the Bally Haly Super Curling League with a 7-1 record following a 6-0 win over Noah Hillier-Boston Pizza/Asham on Tuesday night. Toby McDonald and Greg Smith remain tied for second place with 6-2 records thanks to wins on Tuesday as well. McDonald defeated Gary Perry GFL Environmental 7-5 while Smith and his North Atlantic squad downed  Ken Bavis Technip 7-3.   It was Michael McCarron night at Mile one last night. He scored three goals, the second time he has done that this season as the IceCaps down Albany Devils 5-1. McCarron had a three goal performance earlier this season against Rochester. The win also moves the IceCaps into a tie for second place in their division with Albany. Both teams have 35 points. Joel Hanley and Angelo Miceli had the other Ice Caps goals. Eddie Pasquale in goal made 45 saves in this game. 5341 fans in attendance at the last home game until in the New Year.  …

Thirty-nine players will be at Shawnigan Lake School January as they look to seal their place on Canada’s Men’s U20 Rugby team for their World Trophy qualifier against the USA. Scrum-halves and forwards will report on Jan. 22 while backs will join the team on Jan. 25. S U N D A Y    The standings remain close in the Central West Senior Hockey League following weekend play. The Gander Flyers get a split with Clarenville getting a 10-3 win Sunday. Andrew Ryan, Ray Dalton and Jordan Kelly fire two goals each for the winners. Jordan Escott, Alex Gill, Mitch Oke and Wes Welcher added singles.   John Epping made some incredible shots ans won the Canadian Open Curling championship beating defending champion Brad Gushue 7-4 in the championship game. PARFREY GETS MAJOR POSTING

The man who has promoted rugby in Newfoundland and Labrador for a long time has been rewarded for his dedication to the sport. Pat Parfrey has been named to the World Rugby Council. He will be the Canadian representative on the Council. Parfrey started playing rugby at age 13 at the CBC in his native Cork. He played his club rugby for University College Cork R.F.C., London Irish, Montreal Irish and Swilers RFC. Between 1970-77 he played in all of Munster’s games, including the game when Munster drew 3-3 with the New Zealand All-Blacks in 1973; he also won a cap for Ireland as a wing against them…
