  S U N D A Y  Gander defeat  Corner Brook 5-1 for their third consecutive win and moves them into second place tie in the league standings. Arron Asham had two goals with Brett Shute, Mitch Oke  and Ray Dalton having singles. Michael Hynes had the Royals marker. In Clarenville the Cataracts defeat Clarenville 5-3 to increase their first place lead. .  Luke Gallant, Andre Gill, Mike Sibley, Michaerl Yetman and Cam Fergus account for the Cats goals. ICECAPS LOSE IN SHOOTOUT

Gabriel Dumont netted a shorthanded goal while Charles Hudon scored a powerplay marker but not enough as the St. John’s IceCaps fell 3-2 to the Rochester Americans in a shootout Wednesday night. The IceCaps fell behind 1-0 after the first period but Dumont tied the game just 22 seconds into the second period with the IceCaps on the penalty kill. Rochester regained the lead just a minute and 20 seconds later before Hudon squared the contest at two with a man advantage at 16:31 of the second. The third period and overtime were scoreless. The Clarenville Caribous have made some changes as they start the second half of the Central West Hockey season. General Manager Ivan Hapgood says that current coach Dustin Russell will go back to a full time player role. He says as well they have added defenseman Murray Bavis to the team. He has plaued with St Johns Caps last season. Hapdoog also says that Tyler Whiffen has been added to the team.   Not unexpected and it has happened. The IceCaps have assigned goaltender Eddie Pasquale to the Brampton Beast of the ECHL. Pasquale has posted a 5-1-2 record with the IceCaps, including a 2.45 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. The 25-year-old Toronto native registered a 2-5-2 win-loss record and a shutout with the Beast, including a 3.35 goals against average and a .888 save percentage. S U N D A Y Gabriel Dumont scored at 19:24 of the third period as the Ice Caps get a split  of their weekend series with the Toronto Marlies thanks to a 5-4 win Sunday in Toronto.
