  The St. John’s Caps defeated Southern Shore Breakers 5-3 in Avalon East Senior Hockey League semi-final action Monday night. The Caps take a three games to lead in that best of seven series. Mark Rideout collected two goals and an assist in the Caps win. Mike Druken, Matthew Fewer and Colin Escott provided single markers. Jeremy Nicholas netted two Shore goals and Michael Chafe had the single.       S U N D A Y    The Clarenville Caribous get an overtime goal from Ryan Derosiers and edge Corner Brook Royals 4-3 and keep their playoff run alive. The Royals lead the series three games to two. Chad Earle, Kevin Reid and Cody McNamara were the other Caribous goal scorers.   Charles Hudon scored on a breakaway 1:45 in over time his 15th goal of the season and the St. John’s Ice Caps come-from-behind to edge Syracuse Crunch 4-3 and sweep the two game series against the Crunch. Victor Bartley and Mark Millian scored in the first period ad both teams scored twice in the opening frame. Syracuse took a 3-2 lead after two periods. Nikita Scherbak scored at the five minute mark in the third period to tie the game. That held up forcing the game into the overtime session. The Ice Caps now with back to back wins…

Newfoundland native rugby star Ciaran Hearn has agreed a contract extension with London Irish for the 2016/17 season. Hearn  joined the Club following his impressive form for Canada during the Rugby World Cup, has been a regular starter since arriving at Hazelwood. Hearn’s versatility has seen him play in the centre and on the wing for Irish so far this season. He has made six appearances for the Club in the Aviva Premiership scoring two tries against Gloucester and Worcester respectively.
