     Trent Skanes and his McInnis Cooper Curling squad have earned a berth in the St. John’s Super League Curling final. Skanes and his crew defeated Andrew Symonds and his Therapeutic Services Physiotherapy team 7-3 in the semi-final. Paul Morgan scored 25 points leading ACW Law to a close 55-50 win over Atlantic Woodworking in Metro Basketball play Thursday night. Steve Gosse backed Morgan with 18 points. Bruce Helm had 19 points for Atlantic Woodworking. M5 beat George Street Beer Market 42-34. Dave Smith had 16 points to lead the winners. And John Madden swished 29 points pacing Swilers to a 69-56 decision over Fougere Menchenton Architects. Richard Blackmore and Darryl Kenny had 16 points each for the losers.…

ICE CAPS GET A WIN

  Finally after four consecutive road losses the Ice Caps finish their six game road trip with a victory. They defeat Syracuse Crunch 5-1. Five players shared in the scoring. Charles Hudon, Joel Hanley, Travis Brown, Alexandre Ranger and Gabriel Dumont. Eddie Pasquale was in net for the win making 29 saves after having 30 shots fired his way.  The teams were tied 1-1 after the first and the Ice Caps held a 3-1 advantage going to the final frame. They now head home for a six game home stand starting next Friday against Albany.…

  Bally Haly Super Curling League results from Tuesday Bill Jenkins and his team advanced to the final in section A as they defeated Toby McDonald 8-4. Matthew Smith defeated Greg Smith 6-3 and will play McDonald in the “A” semi-final next week. In the “B” section, Neil Jacobs moved on to the final as he defeated Gary Perry 8-3. PURCELL FEELS HE WILL BE TRADED

  Edmonton Oilers forward Teddy Purcell is an unrestricted free agent come July, but the St. John’s, Newfoundland native thinks he might be on his way out of Edmonton sooner. “Am I concerned about the trade deadline? If I said no, that would be a lie,” Purcell told the Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson. “It’s always in the back of your head but I’m a pretty laid-back guy, somebody who’s been around enough to control the highs and lows.     Stacie Curtis and her Nfld and Labrador rink won both games they played at the 2016 Scotties. Curtis scored one in the 10th end and came from beind and edged Ontario 5-4. Curtis was down at one point in that game 4-2. Deuces were wild in her game with British Columbia as she scored twice in the first, second fourth ,sixth and tenth ends for a 10-7 decision over British Columbia. She faces Saskatchewan at noon island time today and Nova Scotia at ten o clock.…
