FRIDAY Brad Gushue and his Newfoundland and Labrador Curling team are in the final of the 2016 Brier, the Canadian Men’s Curling championship. The Gushue rink avenged a loss earlier in the day to Northern Ontario to win the Page Playoff game 7-6 and earn a berth in the final. It was a seesaw battle throughout the contest. Veteran skip Brad Gushue of Newfoundland-Labrador scored 26 of a possible 30 points to beat lead Denni Neufeld of Manitoba in the final of the Ford Hot Shots skills competition Saturday. Gushue wins a two-year lease on a 2016 EcoBoost powered Ford Edge Sport SUV, with an approximate retail value of $49,789 MSRP. The Northeast Eagles have tied the Avalon East Senior Hockey League best of seven final series at two games apiece with St. John’s Caps. The Eagles Monday night defeated the Caps 5-3 at the Goulds Arena. Five players shared in the scoring for the Eagles– Chris Thorne, Sean Wadden, Mitch Bragg, Andrew White and Liam Myers.
