NL HOCKEY HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

  Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador will induct four more people into its hall of fame in June at its annual meeting. Those going into the hall will be Broadcaster Brian Rogers who has called hockey games for the St. John’s Maple Leafs and Ice Caps during his long broadcast career. Players are former St. John’s standout Charlie Babstock and West Coast player Juan Strickland. Wally Dalley will be inducted into the builder category.…

NS DON JOHNSON CUP CHAMPS

Nova Scotia Valley Maple Leafs claimed the 2016 Don Johnson Cup the Atlantic Provinces Junior B Hockey championship Sunday as they edged Roebothan McKay and Marfshall Avalon Capitals 5-4 in the championship game. Nova Scotia had a 3-2 lead after the first period and led 4-3 heading to the third. The Capitals tied the game at four all and Alex Feltmate scored what proved to be the winning goal at 15:32 of the third period.   The Hockey career of Terry Ryan Jr is now over. Ryan tells THE SPORTSPAGE he is retiring from the game of hockey at age 39. Ryan became a house hold name in 1995 when he was drafted 8th over all and first overall by the Montreal Canadiens at the Amateur draft . Ryan also played for Fredericton Canadiens and St Johns Maple Leafs. He has also a career in ball hockey and has represented Canada many times. FREAKE WINS 5 K RACE

  Dave Freake won the Mundy Pond 5 K road race Sunday. He cross the finish line in a time of 15 minutes and 37 seconds. Matthew Power placed second in 16 minutes and 38 seconds. There was a tie for third place between Charlie Kourvelas and Mark Greene both with a time of 16 minutes and 43 seconds. Anne Johnston was the first female finishes times in 17:23 which was good also for tenth place overall. Caroline Mcillroy was the second female finisher.
