  The Big’s are the 2016 Provincial senior A men’s fast pitch softball champions.   Mike Noftall goes two for three with a solo home run leading the bigs to a 4-2 win over the NTV Hitmen.   Mark Power, who was named the tournament’s most valuable, pitched the win on a seven hitter with nine strikeouts.   Veteran Ward Gosse takes the loss. GUSHUE OUT WITH INJURY

Newfoundland and Labrador curling skip Brad Gushue has a health issue and won’t be participating in the StuSells Oakville Tankard this week and next weeks Shorty Jenkins Classic. Gushue says he has a hip/groin issue which he says doesn’t need surgery but he will need some more time before he starts curling again.         Hawks are the 2016 Corner Brook senior baseball champions. Matt Colbourne threw a perfect game in the five innings the game went as the Hawks blanked the Monarchs 11-0 to win the bests of seven series for games to two. Colbourne face 15 batters and struck out 11 of them. Mike Simms and Ryan Price had three hits each for the winners in this game as the Hawks unleashed a 15 hit attack.
