BRONZE BASEBALL MEDAL FOR CAPS

St. John’s claimed the bronze medal at the Atlantic Pee Wee Baseball championships and they were leading 18-8 over New Brunswick when the game was forfeited to St. John’s by a score of 7-0. A New Brunswick player was ejected for malicious contact. NB gad no subs left to put in the game so it was forfeited to St. John’s. Its first medal at these championships since 2009 for St Johns when they also won a bronze medal. Hammond’s Plains Nova Scotia won the goals as they beat PEI 12-4. PEI take silver.…

  The Big’s are the 2016 Provincial senior A men’s fast pitch softball champions.   Mike Noftall goes two for three with a solo home run leading the bigs to a 4-2 win over the NTV Hitmen.   Mark Power, who was named the tournament’s most valuable, pitched the win on a seven hitter with nine strikeouts.   Veteran Ward Gosse takes the loss. Newfoundland and Labrador curling skip Brad Gushue has a health issue and won’t be participating in the StuSells Oakville Tankard this week and next weeks Shorty Jenkins Classic. Gushue says he has a hip/groin issue which he says doesn’t need surgery but he will need some more time before he starts curling again.
