HEALEY NAMED TO NATIONAL TEAM

    Heather Healey of Paradise has once again been named to Canada’s National Women’s Baseball team. Canada will be at the Women’s Baseball World Cup in Gijang City Korea September 3rd to 11th.   Canada will open the 12-team tournament on September 3rd against World #1 ranked and defending world champions, Japan. Grand Falls Windsor won the Provincial Girls under 14 baseball championship this weekend. They defeated St. John’s 8-1 in the championship game. The Most Valuable player in this tournament was Katie Penney of Grand Falls Windsor.   St. John’s won the Boy’s Midget AA title with a 7-nothing win over Corner Brook. Eric McKay of St. John’s was named the tournament MVP.   C-B-S won  the provincial boys Bantam A title edging St. John’s 8-7 in the championship game. SELECTS WIN SOFTBALL TITLE

  Newfoundland Selects won the Under 16 Eastern Canadian softball fast pitch championship.   The Selects defeated doubled Ontario Ivanhoe Storm 4-2 to take the gold medal Liam Shea pitched the win in the gold medal game. He was also named the playoff most valuable player.  He also was the op batter in the round robin play with a .638 batting average.   The selects finished with a perfect 6-0 record.  …
