    Six individuals have been named to the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association’s Hall of Fame for 2016. The newest inductees include Mike Howlett, Harry Kelly, Malcolm Osmond, William (Doc) Slaney, and Bob Spearns in the Athlete Category, and Dr. Paul Slaney as an Athlete/Builder. St John’s, Newfoundland – The competition climbing season kicked off this week for Newfoundland athletes with the first of two major provincial climbing competitions this winter at the Wallnuts Climbing Centre in St John’s, Newfoundland on Sunday.  Not familiar with competition climbing? Well, its taking off in Canada and Newfoundland and will be an event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Last weekend’s Bloc on The Rock event saw 80 climbers compete in Under12, Under19 and Open categories in the Bouldering discipline.   Adam Smith scored 24 points and Sundance edge Team Kielly 52-50 in overtime in Metro Basketball play Thursday night. John Rowe backed him with 17 points. John Madden had a 23 point performance for Team Kielly. A 22 point performance and Swilers were 66-43 winners over ACW Law. Leon Peddle was ACW Law top scorer with 17 points. PARDY BACK IN NHL WITH NASHVILLE

Bonavista native Adam Pardy is back in the National Hockey League. Nashville Predators have signed Pardy to a one-year, two-way contract worth $575,000 at the NHL level and $175,000 at the AHL level in 2016-17. Pardy has appeared in 338 NHL games and recorded 52 points (4g-48a). He has seen action in 12 games for Milwaukee (AHL) this season, and has earned five points (2g-3a) and a +2 rating.…

  Hockey player Terry Ryan who announced last year he was retiring from hockey has apparently had a change of heart and will be back on the ice soon. The St. John’s Caps used the second overall pick to acquire veteran senior hockey player and former Montreal Canadiens first-round draft pick Terry Ryan.  Ryan tells The Sportspage he was surprised to learn he was drafted by the Caps.     Kippins native Jillian Forsey continues to impress in the cross country running events. This weekend she finished 7th at the Senior Women’s National Cross Country event in Kingston Ontario. She finished the 10 kilometer course in 34 minutes and 33.1 seconds. Forsey with that finish does quality for the selection pool for the world cross country championships next year in Uganda.…
