ATHLETES CAN APPLY FOR FUNDING

    Applications for the 2017 Athletic Excellence Fund, which provides financial support for provincial athletes, coaches and officials, are now available online. The Athletic Excellence Fund is composed of four individual programs – the Premier’s Athletic Awards; Team Gushue Awards; Elite Athlete Assistance Program; and Sport NL Scholarships. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with their Provincial Sport Organization. Completed applications must be submitted to the Provincial Sport Organization on or before January 27, 2017. BLYDE,ROBERTS WIN JR CURLING CROWNS

    Greg Blyde and his rink of third Liam Gregory, Second Ian Withycombe and lead Connor Stapleton are the provincial junior men’s curling champions. Blyde and his rink defeated two time defending champion  Greg Smith 11-4 in the final game. Blyde’s rink scored five in the fourth end to put this one away. They also went undefeated with a 5-0 record in the round robin section. GUSHUE LOSES IN SEMIS

  It’s his first series back as skip of the curling team  and Brad Gushue led his team to the semi finals. Brad Gushue has missed  the first eight events of the season with a groin and hip injury but returned to skip his team at the men’s curling event in Sault Ste Marie this week.
