BOLAND LEADS TEAM IN SCORING

    Newfoundlander Tyler Boland is having a great season with Rimouski Oceanic in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Boland a center holds down sixth place in the league scoring so far this season and is his teams leading point getter. The six foot forward now in his fourth season holds down six place in the scoring. He has played 30 games and has scored 21 goals and also added 21 assists for 42 points.…

  Reid Carruthers defeated Team Gushue Sunday to win the men’s 2016 Canada Cup champion. The 31-year-old Winnipeg skip made a delicate hit-and-stick  and he scored three in the ninth end to  come from behind defeat the Brad Gushue team skipped by Mark Nichols — 8-5 on Sunday to capture the Canada Cup.  …

TEDDY PURCELL CLEARS WAIVERS

    The Los Angeles Kings placed Teddy Purcell on Waivers Saturday and Sunday he was assigned to their AHL team Ontario Region. According to the Kings the 31 year old St John’s native has been hampered by poor health and ineffective play this season. He has just two assists in 12 games. Purcell spent two seasons in AHL and was rookie of the year and also an all-star twice. …

The newest inductees include Mike Howlett, Harry Kelly, Malcolm Osmond, William (Doc) Slaney, and Bob Spearns in the Athlete Category, and Dr. Paul Slaney as an Athlete/Builder. St John’s, Newfoundland – The competition climbing season kicked off this week for Newfoundland athletes with the first of two major provincial climbing competitions this winter at the Wallnuts Climbing Centre in St John’s, Newfoundland on Sunday.  Not familiar with competition climbing? Well, its taking off in Canada and Newfoundland and will be an event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Last weekend’s Bloc on The Rock event saw 80 climbers compete in Under12, Under19 and Open categories in the Bouldering discipline.
