CARIBOUS ON TO FINAL SWEEP FLYERS

      S A T U R D A Y  The Clarenville Caribous will face the Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts for the 2016-17 Central West senior hockey championship.   The Caribous down the Gander Flyers 8-5 on Saturday night to win the best of three semi final series in straight games.   Ryan Derosiers and Stuart McCrae tallied twice each for the Caribous. Rodney Mahoney, Parker Deighan, Chad Earle and Kenny Mahoney added singles. Ryan Watson tallied twice for the Flyers. Brad Drover had 17 points for the losers.   Mike Provencher had 17 points and Brian Kielly added 16 and Team Kielly downed Swilers 59-54. OSMOND FINISHES FOURTH

    After a second place finish earlier in the week, figure skater Kaetlyn Osmond placed fourth overall following the free skate at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Gangneung, South Korea on Saturday. The 21-year-old, from Marystown, fell during her routine and finished shy of the podium with a total segment score of 115.96, leaving her sixth in the event. Osmond faired better in the short program at the competition on Thursday, however, landing a double Axel and finishing second with a score of 68.21 points. The combined scores left Osmond fourth overall after the two events.…

ST JOHNS SUPER LEAGUE CURLING

  Adam Boland and his rink finished in third place at the Remax Super Curling League at the St John’s Curling Club play Sunday. Boland defeated Heather Strong 8-0 in a game conceded after four ends. Boland had command scoring three in the first and four in the fourth. Strong finishes fourth. So Boland will play Paul Harvey in the semi finals and the winner of that match plays Mark Noseworthy for the championship.  …
