WILLIAMS LOOKS TO BE A GROWLERS COACH

Mount Pearl native Darryl Williams appears that he will be back with the ECHL champion Newfoundland Growlers as an assistant coach. He spent  spent a decade as an NHL assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers.The parent Toronto Maple Leafs, who make such revelations, haven’t officially announced Williams as a full-time hire, but his presence in Mississauga means that should happen soon. The Growlers will be playing two exhibition games Friday and Saturday in Brampton against the Beast. Friday’s game has a 9:30 p.m.island time  start time, while Saturday’s puck drop is at 6:30 p.m. island time.…

MULLALEY RETIRES FROM NAT SOFTBALL TEAM

Stephen Mullaley of Freshwater has  announced that after much thought and discussion with family and close friends that he has decided that the time has come to retire from the Canadian Senior Men’s National Fastpitch Softball Team. Mullaley first donned the Maple Leaf in 2006 as a 22-year old and represented his hometown, province and country with class and pride for the past 14-years as a member of the National Team. GROWLERS CAMP STARTS TUESDAY IN BRAMPTON

  The Newfoundland Growlers start their 2019 Training Camp, taking place in Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario Tuesday . A total of 31 skaters, including 18 forwards, 10 defensemen and three goaltenders comprise the Growlers’ roster to start training camp. Among the 31 players in attendance, 15 are AHL or NHL contracted players assigned by the Toronto Marlies, and 10 returning players from the 2018-19 championship team.  The Growlers will take to the ice for the first time on Tuesday, October 1, and will skate Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Mississauga at 10:30 am. The St. John’s senior men’s fast pitch softball title will be decided Monday night at Lions Park. Three Cheers Pub Budlight Dodgers edged Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs 4-3 to force that deciding game. Colin Walsh gets the win on a three hitter.He also recorded 14 strikeouts.  Phillip Corbett belted a three-run home for the winners and Doug Marshall hit a solo shot.  Sean Cleary takes the loss .
