    S A T U R D A Y Dylan MacKenzie scored twice leading St. John’s Caps to a 4-2 win over Southern Shore Breakers. Evan Reid and Michael Williams had singles . Ryan Howlett and Brendan Houlihan had singles for the Shore.         F R I D A Y Two games St. John’s Junior Hockey League games were played Friday night and both ended in 6-4 scores. GROWLERS WIN GAME TWO IN OVERTIME

  S A T U R D A Y Down 2-nothing at one point, the Newfoundland Growlers rebounded for their first win of the season 3-2 in overtime over the Reading Royals Mac Hollwell scored in the overtime session  at 2:51 of the overtime session to give the Growlers now a 1-1 record on the young season.  Aaron Luchuk and Matt Bradley had to goals for the Growlers in regulation time. The big story for the Growlers was the play goaltender Patrick Munson who made 39 saves many of them at close range to keep the Growlers in this game. …

GANDER MINOR BASEBALL LOOKING FOR FIELD IMPROVEMENTS

  Gander Minor Baseball is looking to upgrade its baseball field . They are requesting financial support to conduct repairs/upgrades to the field. They presented a five year plan to Gander Council  which includes repairing the infield and outfield, the installation of lights and a scoreboard and several other repairs. You may recall Gander won the provincial senior B baseball title this year and lost to the St. John;s Capitals in the provincial final.   …

EDGE SIGN TWO MORE PLAYERS FOR NEW SEASON

The reigning NBLC Most Improved Player, Junior Cadougan, a Toronto, ON native, has re-signed with the St. John’s Edge for the 2019-2020 season.  Cadougan, a 7 year pro has played in Georgia, Italy and Greece before returning to the NBL Canada prior to the 2016 season.   Cadougan played 45 games last season with the Edge, helping them to their first ever trip to the NBLC Finals.  Cadougan averaged 12.2 PPG, 4.2 APG and 3.8 RPG while shooting 51.1% from the field and 28.3% from 3-point range.
