BIG NAMES WON’T BE WITH EDGE THIS SEASON

The National Basketball League doesn’t start until after Christmas, however, St. John’s Edge fans are going to see a different team . Some of the big stars with last years team won;t be back with the Edge. Glen “Big Baby” Davis, Jarryn Skeete,  Satnam Sing and Des Lee are not returning. And also hometown favourite Carl English still isn’t decided on whether he will be with the team at Mile One.  There are two teams that won’t be competing this season The St John Riptide and Cape Breton Highlanders are taking the year off to deal with finances.…

    S A T U R D A Y Dylan MacKenzie scored twice leading St. John’s Caps to a 4-2 win over Southern Shore Breakers. Evan Reid and Michael Williams had singles . Ryan Howlett and Brendan Houlihan had singles for the Shore.         F R I D A Y Two games St. John’s Junior Hockey League games were played Friday night and both ended in 6-4 scores. GROWLERS WIN GAME TWO IN OVERTIME

  S A T U R D A Y Down 2-nothing at one point, the Newfoundland Growlers rebounded for their first win of the season 3-2 in overtime over the Reading Royals Mac Hollwell scored in the overtime session  at 2:51 of the overtime session to give the Growlers now a 1-1 record on the young season.  Aaron Luchuk and Matt Bradley had to goals for the Growlers in regulation time. The big story for the Growlers was the play goaltender Patrick Munson who made 39 saves many of them at close range to keep the Growlers in this game. …

  The St. John’s Edge Basketball team will begin their 2019-2020 season on the road. They open December 27th against Moncton and on the 29th play Halifax and Dec31t face Island Storm.
