  The Mary Browns St. John’s Junior Hockey League has named the Sportcraft players of the month for January. Devon Parsons of the St. John’s Caps is the goaltender of the month. He played three games and was in nets for three of his teams wins one of which was a shutout. Greg Kehoe of St. John’s Caps was named the defenseman of the month. He had two goals and six assists for the month.  The forward of the month is Lyndon Thorne of Trinity Placentia Flyers. He registered six goals and six assists in five games. …

The Newfoundland Beaumont Hamel Cup tournament which is a high school hockey tournament is set for April 27th. The rankings for the tournament have been released. Exploits Valley High have the number one ranking .       The Moncton Magic and St. John’s Edge proved on Tuesday night they don’t like each other at least on the court. In a chippy contest at Mile One the Edge who led most of the way through this game came away with a 112-101 win.  Karrington Ward led the Edge who improved now to 6 and 5 as he sank 25 points six three pointers. MUN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT

  S U N D A Y    Memorial defeated SMU 84-81 to sweep their weekend series and remain tied for first place in AUS women’s basketball. Hallie Nickerson led MUN Sunday with 26 points and Alana Short contributed 20. Memorial are 12-4 on the season.
