Sport Newfoundland and Labrador has announced the finalists for this year’s Provincial Annual Awards. Historically these awards are presented during the annual Stars and Legends Awards Gala, a night of celebrating the achievements of decorated athletes, volunteers and administrators. Unfortunately, the Stars and Legends Awards Gala will not be going ahead as planned. Sport NL has announced those who will be enshrined into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame . Unfortunately due to the current medical situation in the province the official ceremony of induction will take place at a later date. Good news for a member of the Newfoundland Growlers. Scott Pooley a right winger, has resigned with the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last season with the Marlies Pooley scored eight goals and four assists in 30 games. With the Growlers Pooley was in 17 games and scored 16 goals and added six assists. …
A big blow to softball fans in this province and indeed an economic hit to the City of St. John’s and C-B-N Community of Carbonear. Two National championships were slated for the province this summer. The Canadian National men’s and masters championships were set for St. John;s September 2nd through sixth. And the Canadian under 19 men’s playdowns were to be held in Carbonear August 11 to 16th. Newfoundland had won the last two senior championships and the last seven of eight.…
Also the Harbour Grace Regatta Committee also announced they are postponing the rowing season. They say they are looking at a number of scenarios including the likelihood of a shorter season.…
