NLAA HAS TO POSTPONE ROAD RACES

  The Newfoundland and Labrador Athletic Association has been forced to make some changes to its schedules for this season. Their Hall of Fame nominations have been extended now to April 30th.  The April 4th track meet has been cancelled as well as May31 ANE Mile Race and the Uniformed Service run which was scheduled for June 14th. Three road races, The Boston Pizza 5K race for April 19th, Nautilus Mundy Pond 5K race for April 26th and the Nautilus HarbourFront 10 K race have all been postponed.…

Memorial Sea Hawks women’s soccer team have recruited four players for next season Zoe Rowe, who attends Queen Elizabeth Regional High, is well known locally having risen through the youth ranks with CBS Strikers and now shining with Feildians Jubilee team Shawna Cosgrove, a natural left fullback who is a student at Charles P Allen High school, is arriving from sound player development environments in her home province of Nova Scotia. 2020 NL SUMMER GAMES POSTPONED

  Due to concerns related to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the 2020 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, which were scheduled to be held in Bay Roberts from August 15-22, are postponed. Because of the current Public Health State of Emergency, all sport facilities are closed, athletes are not able to train in the regular way, play downs are not happening and teams cannot be selected. The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development has consulted with the Town of Bay Roberts, the 2020 Games Host Committee and SportNL, and there is mutual agreement that the Games should be postponed. CROSBIE TEAM MAKES CURLING CHANGE

  There will be a change to the Team Crosbie Group Curling team as they hope to win the provincial tankard next year and go to the Brier. Brad Gushue and his rink will be team Canada so a new Newfoundland entry will be at the Brier. The Crosbie Group team announced that the teams new second will be Daniel Bruce. He skipped Newfoundland to a silver medal at the Canadian Junior championships this year. He replaced Adam Boland.  The team is skipped by Andrew Symonds with Chris Ford and Keith Jewer the other members. …

NEWHOOK TO STAY AT BOSTON COLLEGE

  St. John’s native Alex Newhook has confirmed he will be staying with Boston College next season. He was named the rookie of the year in the college ranks this past season. Newhook is a prospect for the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL as he was picked 16th in the 2019 NHL draft. He had 19 goals and 42 points this past season with Boston College. …
