HAWKS WIN IN 11

Baseball/Corner Brook

  Hawks remained alive in their Corner Brook senior baseball semi-final baseball series. The Hawks came from behind to get a 5-4 win in 11 innings.  Monarchs still lead the best of five series two games to one. Colin Wood in relief of starter Mike Colbourne gets the win.  Mike Tavenor is the losing pitcher. Aaron Shepherd of the losers went two for three in this game which included a home run.  Teammate Colton Kennedy also homered. Fred Prosper goes three for six for the winners.       Feildians defeated  Roebothan McKay and Marshall Gonzaga Vikings  5-4 in St. John’s senior baseball play Thursday night. Jon Walsh who came on in relief of starter Brad Roche gets the win. Roche goes four and two thirds innings and give up two runs on six hits. He issued one walk and and fanned three. Walsh goes two and one third innings.     NTV Hitmen beat the Bigs 9-1 in a St Johns senior men’s fast pitch semi-final game Thursday night .  That best of five series is now tied at a game apiece. Brad Ezekiel went three for three for the winners with a three run homer. Teammate Danny Mullins clocked a two run shot and Ryan Boland a solo blast. Robbie Greene pitches the win and Mike Noftall takes the loss.   It took eight innings and Dance Academy Dodgers edge Kellys Pub Molson Bulldogs 5-4. ST JOHNS GET BRIER

      The Sports Page has learned that the City of St. John’s has been awarded the 2017 Canadian men’s Curling Championship—The Brier. Sources tell the SportsPage that an announcement will be made in St. John’s within the next two weeks. Local officials will not comment on the story only saying that the announcement will be made by Canadian Curling officials as to what bid has been successful.
