Three players scored two goals each and Holy Cross routed NL Canada Games Team 8-1 in Challenge Cup Soccer play on Wednesday night. It was the 12th win of the season for Holy Cross Kyle Williams, Zack Wade and Connor Simmons had two goals each with singles from Steve Delong and Jon Hawco. Westside Monarchs defeated Wingin It Marlins 9-2 in Corner Brook senior baseball play Thursday night at Jubilee Field. They scored four runs in the first inning in this game. Brad Brewer gets the win on a six hitter. He walked two and fanned five. Kevin Farrell started and takes the loss. He went four innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits. NTV Hitmen 7– Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians 4   Kenny Gosse  went five for five at the plate and his fifth hit was a huge one. He belted a walkoff three run homer as the NTV Hitmen defeated Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians 7-4. Also pitcher Eddy McDonald pick up the win and it’s his first career win in senior softball.   McDonald played 16-years in the Senior League from 1993-2010. NL Ball Hockey Association 2016 Provincial Youth Championships A total of 27 teams played in 2016 Provincial Championships in St. John’s held July 7 – 10. Games were played at Feildian Gardens and Twin Rinks, which included a schedule of 64 games. CLOWE GETS NEW CAREER

  A Fermeuse native has now been brought in as an assistant coach with the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils.   33 year old Ryan Clowe has been added to the coaching staff of the NHL team. Clowe’s playing  career came to an end after a series of concussions.   Clowe appeared in 56 games with the Devils from 2013-to-2015 before a series of head injuries forced him to walk away from the game with three years remaining on a five-year, $24.25-million contract. Over 70 rugby players and officials representing The Rock will be in Truro, Nova Scotia to compete in the Eastern Canadian Rugby Championships. The men’s Under 16, Under 18 and women’s Under 18 divisions will compete against teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Eastern Ontario during the three day tournament which kicks off today.
