OSMOND CANADIAN LADIES CHAMPION

          With a record score of 219.66, Kaetlyn Osmond has won her third national figure skating title. Osmond, 21, of Marystown held the lead in women’s singles Friday after landing three huge triple jumps, earning 81.01 points going into Saturday’s free program.   Osmond, who now skates out of Alberta, won back-to-back championships in 2013 and 2014, but then was sidelined after breaking a leg in September 2014, forcing her to sit out the rest of the season.       S U N D A Y    The Cataracts made it a sweep of the Clarenville Caribous Sunday with a 4-2 win. Four players shared in the scoring for the first place Cataracts Andre Hill, Andrew Brennan, Rodi Sjort and Michael Brent. ICE CAPS GET WIN OVER ALBANY

      The Ice Caps get a goal from Michael McCarron at 14:51 of the third period and that proved to be the winner as the IceCaps double Albany 4-2 Saturday night at Mile One.   After Albany took a 1-nothing lead after 18 seconds of the first period Jeremy Gregoire tied the contest at one all with his marker at 10:13. Chris Terry gave the Ice Caps a 2-1 lead at 15:35 of the opening frame. Max Friberg scored an empty net goal at 18:50 of the third to give the IceCaps the insurance goal.  …

  The Avalon East Senior Hockey League held its final draft of the season Tuesday night.  Southern Shore picked Cory Blackmore; and Ben Marshall Bell Island took Matt Densmore; Northeast selected Andrew Smith; CeeBee Stars drafted John Charles Snow; CeeBees then took Mitch Bragg.    The Avalon East Scoring race leader is Matthew Thomey of the CeeBee Stars. He has played 19 games and has tallied 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points. Jeremy Nicholas of Southern Shore Breakers is second with 28 points with 18 goals tops in the league and 10 assists. …

BREAKERS WIN A THRILLER

  It was probably the most exciting game in St. Junior Hockey this season. The first place Southern Shore Breakers down by three goals at one point in the game the Breakers rallied and came up with a 7-6 overtime win over St John’s Caps.
