BOTH MUN TEAMS 1-1 AT AUS CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

  Memorials men’s and womens teams lost at the opening draw of the AUS Curling playdowns.   The men’s team  of skip Greg Blyde, Daniel Bruce, Ryan McNeil Lambswood and Nathan King lost to defending champions Dalhousie 9-4. Memorial’s men’s curling team has a 1-1 record at the AUS championships, They defeated St F X 13-3 in a game that went eight ends. The women’s team is skipped by MacKenzie Glynn, Camille Burt, Chantell Newell and Stephanie Nadeau lost 5-2 to Dalhousie. The women’s team also has a 1-1 record with an 8-4 win over St Mary’s.…

BARKER NAMED AUS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Memorial University SeaHawks basketball player Nathan Barker has been named the AUS Male athlete of the week. Barker had two big games this past weekend against St F X. He had a 34 point performance in the Memorial loss 88-81 to St F X Sunday. He leads the conference averaging 22.2 points per game Also Barker was named the Memorial Male Athlete of the week as well. The Female athlete of the week for Memorial is Sydney Stewart She finished the weekend series against St F X with averages of 16 points per game and eight rebounds and four assists.…

MEETING ON 2ND ICE SURFACE FOR NORTHEAST

There is a very important meeting on Wednesday night  to discuss getting a second ice surface for the Northeast Minor Hockey Program. The meeting is set for seven o’clock Wednesday night  at the Jack Byrne Arena. Officials of Minor Hockey say they have outgrown just one ice surface and have booked times at other arenas but they need a new ice surface in the area, The meeting is open to the public and as many people as possible are asked to attend.…

  MARK NOSEWORTHY PHOTO     Andrew Symonds and his Team Crosbie rink will be the Newfoundland and Labrador team at the 2019 Brier in Brandon Manitoba March 2nd to 10th.   S U N D A Y Memorial Sea Hawks women’s basketball took both four point games from St F X this weekend. Memorial won Sunday 70-50 as Sydney Stewart had 20 points.   The Men’s team split with ST F X as they fell Sunday 88-81.
