  The Road to the 2019 Brier for the Newfoundland team stared Tuesday  afternoon at Bally Haly. There are 12 teams competing for the right to go to this years Brier as the Newfoundland Representative. Brad Gushue is the defending Brier champions. In the second draw Trent Skanes won this opening game at the Tankard beating Bernard Bird 9-0. . Bird won this first game 9-5 over Nick Lane Andrew Symonds won his opening game 7-4 over Matthew Smith Ken Peddigrew defeated Rick Rowsell 9-5 And Colin Thomas beat Breg Smith 7-5. SEAHAWKS MEN GET 2 WINS

  The Memorial Sea Hawks men’s basketball team came away with two weekend wins over UPEI Panthers. The men’s team won 88-70 Sunday as Emmanuel Ring led the Sea hawks with 25 points seven rebounds and four assists  They also won 88-69 win over UPEI Saturday. Nathan Barker was the offensive leader with 33 points. The SeaHawks women’s teams come away with a weekend split. ROYALS MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE

  In West Coast senior hockey the Corner Brook Royals doubled Port aux Basques Mariners 6-3. Kurt Etchegary once again led the Royals with a hat trick. Steven Gillard added two and Scott Delaney a single. The Royals with that win move into first place in the Standings.   S A T U R D A Y The Seventh place Roebothan Mckay and Marshall Avalon Capitals upset the first place Mount Pearl Blades 6-4 in St. John’s Junior Hockey League play Saturday. The Capitals broke this one open in the third period with three goals after the teams were tied 3-3 after 40 minutes of play.
