The 21st annual Sportscraft Source for Sports Confederation Cup High School Hockey Invitational Tournament is taking place this week from Tuesday, February 5th to Sunday, February 10th at various rinks in St. John’s and the surrounding area. The Confederation Cup High School Hockey Tournament began in 1999 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador becoming Canada’s tenth province in 1949. Memorials men’s and womens teams lost at the opening draw of the AUS Curling playdowns. The men’s team of skip Greg Blyde, Daniel Bruce, Ryan McNeil Lambswood and Nathan King lost to defending champions Dalhousie 9-4. Memorial’s men’s curling team has a 1-1 record at the AUS championships, They defeated St F X 13-3 in a game that went eight ends. There is a very important meeting on Wednesday night to discuss getting a second ice surface for the Northeast Minor Hockey Program. The meeting is set for seven o’clock Wednesday night at the Jack Byrne Arena.
