FIVE NEW MEMBERS FOR SPORTS HALL OF FAME

      Sport Newfoundland and Labrador has announced that five new members will be inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame. Selected by the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame Board of Governors, these inductees will be celebrated at the Stars and Legends Awards Gala taking place on April 27, 2019.   The 2019 inductees are: Angus Barrett in the “Athlete/Builder” category (Soccer) Ward Gosse in the “Athlete” category (Softball, Hockey) Bill Hogan in the “Builder” category (Swimming) Terry Ryan Senior in the “Athlete” category (Hockey) Michael Ryder in the “Athlete” category (Hockey)  …

  Maries Mini Mart defeated Chislett Whitten Law 63-53 in one of three Metro Basketball League games Thursday the last night of regular season play. Nick Noel scored 19 points for the winners and Jeremy McCarthy added 18 and  Brad Hawco 15   Steve Gosse hooped 13 points for the losers and   Paul Morgan added 12   Fougere Menchenton Architecture downed M5  71-57 Wayne Button was top scorer for the winners with 22 points and  Anthony Crocker and Dwayne Young backed him up with 15 each.   Steve Toraville scored  19 points for M5 and Mike Fudge added 16  …

BREAKERS WILL PLAY CATARACTS FOR HERDER

  S U N D A Y  Southern Shore Breakers are headed to the Herder Memorial Trophy final against the Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts. Sunday night the Breakers swept Clarenville Caribous with a 4-3 overtime win against  Clarenville Caribous . Michael Chafes second goal of the game one minute in overtime gave the Breakers the 4-3 win.Daniel Cadigan and Daniel Alyward had the other goals for the Shore. Chris Sparkes has two goals for the Bous and Chad Earle had a single for the Caribous.  The Breakers will be looking for their sixth Herder and last won the Herder 15…

  S A T U R D A Y  The Cataracts are off to the 2019 Herder Memorial Trophy best of seven final.   The Cataracts downed Gander Flyers 3-1 Saturday to win the best of seven series four games to two.   Three players shared in the scoring, Michael Cole, Sammy Hounsell and Danny Wicks. Jordan Escott replied for the Flyers.   The Cataracts await the winner of the East Coast final between Southern Shore Breakers and Clarenville Caribous.
