  Stefan Slaney leads the scoring race in the Johnsons Insurance Challenge Cup play. He has scored ten goals in 12 games. In second place is Tyler Forsey of Feildians who has nine goals in 11 games played.   Three players are tied for the scoring lead in the Breens Jubilee Soccer.   Jessie Noseworthy and Malorie Harris both with Holy Cross Avalon Ford and Stacey Hanlon of Feildians all have scored 12 goals so far this season.…

NOSEWORTHY WINS MEWS 5K RACE.

  Matt Noseworthy finished first in the annual Mews 5K Road Race Sunday. He finished the course in 25 minutes and 24 seconds. David Freake was second in 25:27 and Mark Greene was third in 26:11.   Kate Bazley was the first female across the finish line in a time of 26 minutes and 28 seconds. Anne Johnston was second in 26:38 and Jennifer Murrin third in 26:43. 380 runners finished the race. …

  The St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League Would Like has announced that Blair Ezekiel (Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs) Has Been Named The Molson St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League Player of the Month For June 2019.   Ezekiel led his team to a perfect 8-0 record in regular season play and turned in an MVP performance leading his team to a perfect 4-0 record in capturing the Molson St. John’s Day Tournament Championship.   A Newfoundlander has been named to the Canadian women’s baseball team that will be at the worlds in Mexico August 18th to 25th. Heather Healey of Paradise  has been named to the squad for the third time. She has play internationally with Canada in 2014 and 2016. She is listed as a pitcher with the squad.   …

GANDER TO PLAY CAPS FOR SR BASEBALL TITLE

  Gander Pilots will play St. John’s Capitals for the 2019 provincial senior baseball championship.   The Gander squad edged Corner Brook Barons 2-1 to move to the final. Riley King got the win on a three hitter and eight strikeouts.   Mike Tavenor was the losing pitcher allowing two hits and fanning five.   Gander scored once in the third and once in the fifth while the Barons only run came in the third. …
