EDGE HAVE INTER SQUAD GAME WEDNESDAY

The St. John’s Edge have finalized their training camp roster and will bring a total of 15 players to St. John’s.    An inter squad scrimmage is slated for Wednesday December 11th, to be held at Holy Heart High School.  The lone exhibition game of the pre-season will be held on Sunday December 15th vs the Moncton Magic.  Tip off for the exhibition game is set for 2:00 p.m. and tickets are available now at the Mile One Centre Box Office.   The Edge bring back two returners from last season’s team that made it to the NBLC Finals in Murphy Burnatowski…

ST JOHN’S TENNIS NAME GM

  St. John’s Tennis Association and Tennis Newfoundland and Labrador has announced  the appointment of Ed Buckingham as SJTA general manager and interim TNL executive director.    Buckingham holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees from Memorial University of Newfoundland.  He is a retired junior high and high school teacher and former Member of the House of Assembly for St. John’s East.      In his role  as general manager,Buckingham,  will oversee the operations of the association’s Greenbelt and Riverdale facilities and, as interim TNL executive director, will assist the TNL Board of Directors in…

  The fact that there will not be a senior hockey league in Central Newfoundland this season has proven to be beneficial to one team in the west coast senior hockey league. The Port Aux Basque Mariners have picked former Grand Falls Cataracts defenseman Niklas Lidstrom. Lidstrom has won Herders with Grand Falls Windsor and also an Allan Cup.   The AUS Basketball season is now taking a break for November and December because of exams and return to play in January. Memorial Sea Hawks players are the leading scorers in the women’s and men’s divisions.     Haillie Nickerson of MUN is the top scorer in the women’s division. She has played eight games and is averaging 22.9 points per game. Alana Short also of MUN is 11th averaging 13.1 points per game. It was an old time hockey in Corner Brook Friday night as the Royals hosted Deer Lake Red Wings in the season opener. Plenty of body contact and a nail-biter to the end.  Jalen Gillard’s third goal of the game with eight seconds left in regulation time lifted the Red Wings to a 7-6 win over the hometown Royals. Luke Parsons, Noah Legge, Lucas Mackey and Josh Skinner scored the other Red Wing goals. Iain Pilgrim and Daniel Noseworthy had two goals each for the Royals with Tyler Hunt adding a single.
