INTERNATIONAL GIRLS HOCKEY GAME SET FOR MILE ONE

Hockey NL, in partnership with Hockey Canada and the Hockey Canada Foundation, will be hosting the 2020 Global Girls’ Game in co-operation with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Global Girls’ Game will take place in St. John’s, NL, 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8th, at the Mile One Center. 16 female players from across Newfoundland and Labrador have been selected to represent Hockey NL and Canada. C-B-R Renegades moved three points ahead of Mount Pearl in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League standings Saturday night. The Renegades defeated Paradise Warriors 6-2 . The Renegades have 30 points in the standings with a 14-2-2 record. Blake Fudge paced the winners with a pair of goals.  Singles were added by Noah Parsons, Aaron Greenham, Aaron Peach and Nick Gosse. MERCER NAMED TO TEAM CANADA

  18 year old Dawson Mercer of Bay Roberts has been named to Canada’s National Junior Hockey team to play at the World Junior Hockey tournament.  The Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association (NLSA) announced its annual award winners for 2019, as well as the players and teams of the decade. Malorie Harris and Jake Warren have been named the NLSA’S Players of the Decade, while Kirby United women’s and Holy Cross Kirby Group men’s have been named the Teams of the Decade.   The Corner Brook Royals even their record at two wins and two losses with a lopsided 11-5 win over Port aux Basques Mariners Friday night at the Civic Center in Corner Brook.  Matt Colbourne, Andrew Stagg  and Iain Pilgram tallied twice for the winners. The single markers came from Ryan Gilliam, Wilfred Bellows, William Keating, Brandan Hynes, and Josh Smith.  Robert Parsons had a pair of goals for the Mariners.
