The Brad Gushue curling team captured a World Curling Tour championship at the “AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic” in Cornwall, Ontario with a 5-4 extra end victory over Glen Howard Sunday. The St. John’s Senior Baseball semi-finals, both best of five, begin Tuesday night at St. Pats Ball Park. The opening game at six o clock will be the “A” series semi-final game between Shamrocks, who finished first in the league standings and fourth place Holy Cross. The battle for the Herder Memorial Trophy, emblematic of provincial senior hockey championship will now involve teams from both the Provincial senior A League and the Avalon East Senior Hockey League. That decision to elevate the Avalon East Senior Hockey League to “A” status was made at the fall meeting of Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador in Gander this weekend.
