VIKINGS TAKE GAME ONE

    Defending champions Roebothan, McKay and Marshall Gonzaga Vikings won the opening game of the St. John’s senior baseball best of seven final series. The Vikings tallied five times in the first inning and go on to an 8-4 decision over Shamrocks at St. Pat’s Ball Park. Matthew Peterson gets the win for the Vikings and Greg Barry is tagged with the loss. Game two in the series is set for 3:30 Saturday.…

  The first week of play in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League has been completed. Ben Cleary of the Roebothan, McKay and Marshall Avalon Junior Capitals has taken the scoring lead after the initial week. Cleary has played one game and has scored two goals and added four assists for six points.   NTV Hitmen remain alive in the St. John`s Senior Men`s Fast Pitch softball final as they defeated Kelly`s Pub Molson Bull Dogs 9-0 as Robbie Greene pitches a no hitter in the six inning game. Greene also hit a home run in this game to aid his own cause. Teammate Ryan Boland went four for four at the plate and also hit a solo home run.     Roebothan, McKay and Marshall Gonzaga Vikings and Shamrocks are on to the St. John`s Senior Baseball League best of seven final series. The Vikings took advantage of some sloppy defense by Feildians to twice overcome a three run lead by the Double Blues to beat Feildians 12-7. They take the best of five series three games to one. A Member of the Mount Pearl Referees Association has been chosen to officiate at St. John’s IceCaps home games this season. Darryl Butt will start officiating games when the IceCaps start their home season at Mile One in October. He is the second Mount Pearl Hockey Official to make it to the pro ranks. Kevin Penney was the first Mount Pearl official to do AHL games as he started when Maple Leafs were in St. John’s. Also Brian Lambert of Goulds will be doing AHL games as well this season.…

  LaFontaine Club Molson evened the best of five St Johns Intermediate Fast Pitch Softball semi-finals at a game apiece with a 7-0 win over MJR Masonry at Lions Park.
