    Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador handed out three awards for the past season prior to the start of game one of the Herder Memorial Trophy final.   A J Whiffen who toiled with the Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts for the past number of seasons but this year decided to play with the Conception Bay CeeBee Stars was a double winner.     Whiffen walked away with the Most Valuable Player for the Regular season and also top goaltender award. BEARS GET SPLIT WITH ICE CAPS

    S U N D A Y    The St. John’s IceCaps could not complete the comeback and were topped by the Hershey Bears 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Mile One Centre.   Riley Barber scored the only first period goal for the Bears as they grabbed a 1-nothing lead .     GAME TWO  The CeeBee Stars  have evened the best of five Herder Memorial Trophy final at a game apiece with Clarenville Caribous.  Matthew Thomey’s goal late in the third period from Colin Feehan and Danbiel Cadigan proved to be the winner  as the CeeBee Stars win  2-1. John Snow also scored in the third for the CeeBee Stars  to tie the game at 1-1.     The Southern Shore Breakers won a real nail biter in the seventh game of the St Johns junior hockey semi-finals with Trinity Placentia Flyers Monday night. Justin David scored with 16 second left in the third period and Southern Shore Breakers edged Trinity Placentia Flyers 5-4 to advance to the St. John’s Junior Hockey League best of seven final series.
