        Over the years not many books have been written about baseball in Newfoundland and Labrador.   Mark Healy has been returned once again as president of the St. John’s Amateur Baseball Association at the league’s annual general meeting Thursday night.  Troy Croft has been returned as vice president and Scott Stockley is the secretary-treasurer. Each of the six teams entered in both the senior and intermediate league have a member as director at large.   St. Lawrence Laurentians picked p their first win of the young Challenge Cup season Friday night with a 4-1 decision over the Canada Gams team. CANADA GAMES WINS SOCCER GOLD

        The Newfoundland Canada Games men’s team won the Atlantic soccer title this weekend in Nova Scotia. They beat New Brunswick 1-nothing to win the gold medal. Felly Elondan had the winning goal. In other games they played they defeated Nova Scotia 4-2 and PEI 4-1   Newfoundland girls Canada games team placed second in a weekend tournament in the Maritimes. They defeated New Brunswick 2-1 . Alex Murphy and Lauren Taylor had the Newfoundland goals.  …

GREENE WINS 10K HARBOR FRONT RACE

  Mark Greene won the Harbour Front 10K road race Sunday. He finished with a time of 33 minutes and 38 seconds.   Peter Bazely was second in 34 minutes and eight seconds while Charles Kourvekas placed third in 34 minutes and 28 seconds.   The first female finisher was Jennifer Mrrin. Her time was 36 minutes and six seconds. Second place went to Lisa Collins Sheppard. Her time was 37 minutes and 39 second. The third female finisher was Jennifer Barron in 38 minutes and 14 seconds.   401 runners finished the event under mainly sunny skies.…
