Provincial Boys Slow Pitch Softball Championships Highlight Need for Change This past weekend saw the Provincial Boys Slow Pitch Softball Championships, with 2A through 4A tournaments held across the province. 2A Championship – La Scie La Scie hosted the 2A event, welcoming eight teams from across Newfoundland. This past weekend, three provincial high school girls soccer championships took place across Newfoundland and Labrador. ST. JOHN’S, NL – Volleyball player Falon McLoughlan will once again represent Team Canada on the international stage, this time at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, taking place November 15–26, 2025. Falon is one of the top volleyball players in the province. She won the 2024 Premier’s Athletic Award and was a finalist for Female Athlete of the Year. She joined Team Canada Women’s Deaf Volleyball team at age 14 and was the youngest player on the team. October 19, 2025, St. John’s, N.L. – Ben Collingwood and Betsy Nicholson battled challenging weather to win the Capital Subaru Cape to Cabot 20k Road Race 2025.  Collingwood, the male winner, completed the course in 1:15:22, and Nicholson , the female winner, completed the course in 1:31:03.  Adrian Smith was second place male finisher at 1:18;22 and John Halley was third place male finisher at 1:19:58.  Katie Pirzada was second place female finisher at 1:35:33 and Courtney King was third place female finisher at 1:36:02.  Fan favourite Florence Barron, 87, captured the 80+ female category with a time of  2:35:57, and…

Holy Cross wins double gold at soccer nationals ST. JOHN’S, NL – Holy Cross dreamed of national gold, and on Monday they made those dreams come through not once, but twice, on home turf at historic King George V soccer pitch in St. John’s. The women led things off with a 2-1 victory over 2024 champions CS Trident – Ouest de Quebec.  Teri Murphy was named tournament MVP.  Holy Cross Nutra Holdings had previously won Jubilee Trophy national gold in 2022 and 2023 and had 15 players from those campaigns in the lineup.
