ST JOHN’S, NL – The first weekend of Curling Canada’s 2026 Montana Briar in St John’s, Newfoundland has seen record crowds great curling. In Pool A, as of Monday afternoon, Brad Gushue’s Newfoundland and Labrador rink is tied in first place and Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs with 3 in 3 wins. This rivalry could make for an exciting final and epic Briar story. Over in Pool B Kevin Koe is also in first place with a 3 in 3 record and a serious contender for a finals spot. JOHN’S, NL – Hometown hero and curling legend, Brad Gushue and his team opened the first round the Curling Canada 2026 Montana Briar Canadian curling championship in St John’s, Newfoundland on Friday night. The Mary Brown Centre was at capacity as fans came out to see Gushue in his final tournament before retiring from competition. Provincial Boys Slow Pitch Softball Championships Highlight Need for Change This past weekend saw the Provincial Boys Slow Pitch Softball Championships, with 2A through 4A tournaments held across the province. 2A Championship – La Scie La Scie hosted the 2A event, welcoming eight teams from across Newfoundland. ST. JOHN’S, NL – Volleyball player Falon McLoughlan will once again represent Team Canada on the international stage, this time at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, taking place November 15–26, 2025. Falon is one of the top volleyball players in the province. She won the 2024 Premier’s Athletic Award and was a finalist for Female Athlete of the Year. She joined Team Canada Women’s Deaf Volleyball team at age 14 and was the youngest player on the team. This year’s Games mark the 100th anniversary of the Deaf Olympics, with more than 80 countries participating. Falon is not…
