Memorial University has named it’s athletes of the week and both are from the Memorial Swimming team. Ryan George is the Memorial male athlete of the week after winning three events at the Dalhousie Invitational. George secured first place finishes in the 50M, 100M, and 200M Backstroke and helped his team finish third overall in the team standings Jasmine Foran is the Memorial female athlete of the week following multiple strong performances at the Dalhousie Invitational. The 2018 Herder Memorial Championships will open up this year in the home rink of the Central West League champion on Saturday, April 7th and Sunday, April 8th for games one and two. The series will then revert back to the East Coast League for games three, four and five (if necessary) on April 13, 14 and 15th. If needed, games six and seven will be played back in Central West on April 21 and 22nd. Newfoundland and Labrador Paralympic Gold Medalist Katarina Roxon of Kippens has been named to Canada’s Commonwealth Games that will compete in Australia this April. It will be Katarina’s 3rd Commonwealth Games. In 2016 at the Rio Paralympics she won a gold medal in the 100 metres breaststroke. …
