      David Freake of St.John’s is the 2018 winner of the Toronto Marathon. His winning time was 2 hours 33 minutes.57.   Charles Kourveles was third in 2:50.48   Ann Johnson of St. John’s was the second female across the finish line in 2:58.50.   In the half Marathon Peter Browne of St. John’s  was the top Newfoundlander. He placed 48th with a time of 1:27.19. Paul Matthews of Mount Pearl was 70th in 1:29.30. Glen Hunt also of Mount Pearl was 90th in 1:31.28. Pete Soucy finished 142nd in 1:35.05   …

  The East Coast Senior Hockey League named its awards winners for the past season. Terry Ryan of the St.John’s Caps was named the most valuable player for the regular season. He  was also the league’s top scorer.   Matt Walsh of the Northeast Eagles was named the top defenseman. The coach of the year Greg Ryerson of the Northeast Eagles. Justin O’Reilley of the Southern Shore Breakers was named most gentlemanly and effective player and Michael Chafe of the Southern Breakers claimed the top defensive forward award.…
