Bronze for Team Gushue at 2022 Olympics

BEIJING – It’s a bronze medal for Team Gushue and Canada in Olympic curling.  Gushue defeated  the defending Olympic champion, John Shuster, and Team USA 8-5 in the 10th end to earn his second Olympic medal. “That was the toughest game I think I’ve ever played. ST JOHN’S, NL – Nathan Young’s team defeated Team Greg Smith to win the Newfoundland and Labrador Tankard and become the provincial champions on Sunday afternoon at the ReMax Centre in St John’s. Final score was 8-4 after 9 ends. The two teams were very evenly matched as the only loss Smith had all week was to Young. Firsts scores came in the 3rd end with Young picking up two points with the hammer shot but Smith comes back with 2 in the 4th. 5-2 for Team Young at the end of the 6th and they traded shots after that.…

  In a battle of the Olympic champions, Brad Gushue of team Canada, the 2006 Olympic gold medallist, defeated the  defending Olympic John Shuster of Team USA 10-5 to end a two-game losing streak and improve his record to 3-2 at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. Gushue took two in the ninth and it was fist bumps. Gushue took a 7-1 advantage into the break with all team members throwing 93 per cent during the first half. You may know him as his alter ego, Buddy The Puffin, the 7 foot tall long time sports mascot in St John’s. Abbott had a unique, endearing and enduring way of entertaining the fans at sports and community events. We first saw Buddy in 1992 as part of the new St. John’s Maple Leafs American Hockey League franchise that had set up shop in St John’s at the old Memorial Stadium.
