  Seven Newfoundland and Labrador Softball players and two coaches have been named to Canada’s National Softball team that will compete at the world championships next June in the Czech Republic. ACES ADVANCE TO CORNER BROOK BASEBALL FINAL

  Aces downed Hawks 10-2 in Corner Brook senior baseball semi final play. The win means they win the best of five series three games to one and advance to the final against Westside Monarchs who swept their series against Marlins.    Michael Tavenor pitched the win on a six hitter. Cory Lockyear started and took the loss. He was relieved by Frank Humber who then gave way to Aaron Pilgram. MUN AT CROSS COUNTRY RACES

Memorial’s men’s cross country team competed at the StFX invitational Saturday. Levi Moulton was the top MUN performer with a time of (28:01),good for 5th place. JUNIOR HOCKEY SEASON BEGINS

  The St. John’s Junior Hockey League started it’s new season Friday night. The opening game at the Bay Arena saw the C-B-N Stars open up a 6-nothing lead and coast to a 7-4 win over Southern Shore. Ryan Dawson had a pair of goals for the winners with singles coming from Mark Barrett, Ryan Petten, Cass Warren, Steven Moores and Jordan Coombs. Scoring for the Breakers were Brendan Houlihan, A.J.
