7 NFLDERS NAMED TO NATIONAL SOFTBALL TEAM

    Softball Canada has announced  the list of seventeen (17) athletes from the Men’s National Team Athlete Pool who have been named to the 2019 WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship roster. The event will take place in Prague/Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic from June 13-23, 2019. There are seven Newfoundland players named to the team. Ryan Boland, Shane Boland, Sean Cleary, Brad Ezekiel, Kyle Ezekiel, Jason Hill and Stephen Mullaley Team Canada won bronze at the previous WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship held in Whitehorse in 2017. Brady Normore had two goals for Mt Pearl. S A T U R D A Y C-B-R Renegades doubled Southern Shore Breakers 8-4 in St. John’s Junior hockey play Saturday. The Newfoundland Growlers return to Mile One this Saturday as they host Brampton Beast. But they will be without forward and second in team scoring Giorgio Estephan. He has been recalled for the second time this month by the AHL Marlies.  The Growlers are first overall in the East Coast League with a record of 14-6-1 for 29 points. Meanwhile Brady Ferguson of the Growlers is in 7th place in the league scoring race. He has played in 19 games and has 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points.   Nathan Barker is the Memorial male athlete of the week He averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2 assists in the Sea-Hawks home weekend sweep of the Acadia Axemen.  Barker currently leads the AUS in scoring at 23.4 PPG Sydney Stewart is the Memorial female athlete of the week. She did average 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3 steals in the Sea-Hawks weekend series split with the Acadia Axewomen.
