EDGE WIN SECOND GAME OF SEASON

The St. John’s Edge picked up their second win of the season last night as they defeated Cape Breton Highlanders 107-94. Carl English started to show his comeback in this game from an ankle injury as he scored 28 points to lead the Edge win. Diego Kapelan and Maurice Jones added 17 points each.   S U N D A Y The St. John’s Edge lost two games this weekend and now drop to 1-5 on the season. Sunday it was Halifax winning 112-111. That game went down With the final possession in the hands of the Halifax Hurricanes, they played spoiler to the St. John’s comeback when a Tyrone Watson floater fell in the hoop as the buzzer sounded. The Edge were led by Maurice Jones Sr. who scored a game-high 30 points with 18 of those points coming in the fourth quarter alone. Dez Lee a backed him up with 24 points.…

  S U N D A Y The Newfoundland Growlers won their 15th and 16th games of the season this weekend and their sixth win in a row on home ice. On Friday the Growlers defeated Brampton 7-4. Scott Pooley with three goals for Growlers. Sunday the Growlers came away with a 5-1 win. The Growlers gets five goals from five different players.   Two games played Friday night in Eastern Women’s Junior Hockey League. Allison Dearing scored five times as Universal Corporate Wear defeated Eastern Value Metro 7-3. Allison Sheppard had the other two markers. Kaylee Jones and Heather Newman replied for the Metro Squad. In another contest Blizzard downed Eastern IceBreakers 6-1.
