HOLY CROSS CHALLENGE CUP CHAMPIONS

  Holy Cross Kirby Group captured their third consecutive provincial title 1-0 Sunday in a game that required extra time and a penalty shoot out. Holy Cross faced city rivals Stavanger Dental Feildians in a rematch of Friday’s 1-2 page playoff, which Feildians won on penalties.  On Sunday, Holy Cross was the victor, taking the penalty shoot out 4-2.  All-Star goalie Sam Hawco stopped two of the four Feildians shots, and was named playoff MVP.  The game was played before a crowd of about 400 at Centennial Field in St. Lawrence. GALWAY HITMEN CHANADIAN CHAMPIONS

    The Galway Hitmen  claimed their third national fast pitch softball championship in four years Sunday. The Hitmen defeated BC Sooke Loggers 10-7 in the championship game. The Galway team won three straight games Sunday to claim the title. Colin Walsh got credit for the win in the title game . In five innings he allowed four runs on five hits fanned four and did not walk a batter.  Walsh was named the playoff most valuable player. GALWAY HITMEN WIN OPENING GAME

  Galway Hitmen won their opening game at the Canadian Men’s fast pitch softball championships in Grande Prairie   Alberta Wednesday. The Hitmen defeated Elmira of Ontario in a shortened game 11-1. Jeff Farion gets the win on a two hitter. Blair and Kyle Ezekiel along with Stephen Mullaly, Jason Hill and Ryan Kirk homered in this game. Hill, Mullaly and Kyle Ezekiel had two hits each. The Hitmen have three games on Thursday. They play Saskatoon Angels at four o’clock island time, Irma Tigers at 6:30 island time and Big Guy Lake Kings at 11 p.m island time. …
