GALWAY HITMEN WIN OPENING GAME

  Galway Hitmen won their opening game at the Canadian Men’s fast pitch softball championships in Grande Prairie   Alberta Wednesday. The Hitmen defeated Elmira of Ontario in a shortened game 11-1. Jeff Farion gets the win on a two hitter. Blair and Kyle Ezekiel along with Stephen Mullaly, Jason Hill and Ryan Kirk homered in this game. Hill, Mullaly and Kyle Ezekiel had two hits each. The Hitmen have three games on Thursday. They play Saskatoon Angels at four o’clock island time, Irma Tigers at 6:30 island time and Big Guy Lake Kings at 11 p.m island time. …

  The sports fraternity in St. John’s and in particular the Baseball community are mourning the loss of two people.  Mike Buist the director of St. John’s Minor Baseball and Bill Campbell a long time baseball coach with Guards baseball teams  passed away during the weekend.  Funeral service for Mike Buist will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 at the Basilica.
