MACDONALD GETS TROIS-RIVIERES APPROVAL FOR A HOCKEY TEAM

Dean MacDonald and has his officials have been awarded a possible  ECHL Franchise for Trois Rivires Quebec. The official announcement was made on Thursday afternoon.

Sources tell the Sportspage nothing finalized on a team. The deal with Trois Rivieres is step one. Then they need to apply to ECHL.  Then get an NHL affiliate

After several months of negotiations, the various parties agreed to a five-year agreement, with two renewal options of the same duration, which represents a potential period of 15 years.

We are delighted to come to an agreement with the city of Trois-Rivières,” said  MacDonald. “The discussions have been very constructive and respectful of the needs of all parties involved. We appreciate the efforts of the Mayor, Council and city staff to advance this relationship on behalf of the citizens of their beautiful city.”

The deal establishes a framework for a five-year lease agreement of the new Colisée of Trois-Rivières, with two five-year options, up to a maximum of 15 years. Co-habitation of the arena remains a possibility according to Mayor Lamarche

“We are really embarking on a long-term vision,” continued Mayor Lamarche, thanking Bergeron and consultant Mark Weightman, who were largely involved in the talks. I don’t want to have a team for a year or two. I want to have a team for five years, 10 years, 15 years. I want it to really become a product identified in Trois-Rivières. Know that from now on, I am probably one of the biggest fans of ECHL on this Earth. ”
