Edmonton Oilers forward Teddy Purcell is an unrestricted free agent come July, but the St. John’s, Newfoundland native thinks he might be on his way out of Edmonton sooner.
“Am I concerned about the trade deadline? If I said no, that would be a lie,” Purcell told the Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson. “It’s always in the back of your head but I’m a pretty laid-back guy, somebody who’s been around enough to control the highs and lows. I have been traded before ( at the deadline).”
Purcell who is now 30, is in his ninth NHL campaign and second with the Oilers.
In 59 games this season, he has 11 goals and 20 assists and could add some tertiary scoring punch to a playoff-bound club like the Florida Panthers.
That said, Purcell remains interested in remaining with the Oilers, but notes that extension talks have not left the exploratory stage.
