The Paradise 5 and 10 K road race event was held on Saturday. David Freak was winner of the 5K event with a winning time of 15 minutes and 56 seconds. Levi Moulton place second in 16 minutes and 9 seconds and third place finisher was Seams Boyd Perte in 16 minutes and 36 seconds.     The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club Rookie Camp will be held in Penticton, B.C. from Thursday until next Monday. The group playing in Penticton will be on the ice together for the first time at Bell MTS Iceplex on Sept. 7, at 12:30 pm St. John’s native Tyler Boland who played with Rimouski in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will be at this camp. He had 48 goals and 55 assists in 68 games last season.…

  The top senior men’s teams in the province will compete this Labour Day weekend for the right to represent Newfoundland and Labrador on the national stage. Four teams will participate in final weekend; Defending champions and first place finishers, St. Lawrence Laurentians (51pts); second place Holy Cross (44pts); third place Mount Pearl (40pts); and fourth place Feildians (33pts). The winners will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Toyota National Championships in Surrey, BC October 4-9.   The Avalon East Senior Hockey League has told the Conception Bay CeeBee Stars they won’t be allowed to play in that league next season. The four teams in the league, Conception Bay Blues, Southern Shore Breakers, Northeast Eagles and St. John’s Caps signed a letter notifying the CeeBees they would be returning to a four team league.
