CAPS WI OPENER OF EAST COAST SENIOR HOCKEY FINALS

  St.John’s Caps won the opening game of the best of seven east coast hockey final edging Southern Sore 4-3 at the Mobile area.   Jon Caul scored what turned out to the the game winning goal at 13:17 of the third period.   Robert Ider, Jeremy Barron and Matthew Fewer also scored for the Caps.   Jeremy Nicholas scored twice for the Shore and Peter Kavanagh added a single.   Kyle Downer made 49 saves in the Caps net while Mark Power had 42 stops for the Breakers.   Game Two is set for seven o’clock Wednesday night at…

      The Clarenville Caribous are the 2017-18 Central West Hockey League champions. They beat Gander Flyers 6-5 Friday night to take the best of seven final series for games to one. Clarenville well they will play the winner of the East Coast Hockey League in a best of seven final for the Herder Memorial Trophy.   Deer Lake Red Wings are the 2017-18 West Coast Senior Hockey champions.   Deer Lake swept the best of seven final with a 6-3 win over Corner Brook Royals Saturday in Corner Brook.   Jalen Gillard and Luke Parsons scored twice for the winners, with singles from Stephen Simms, Bradley Morey and Jacob Bennett.   Ryan Hawco,Nick Childs and Jeremy Bishop scored for the Royals.  …

FORMER ST JOHNS MAPLE WANTS TO COACH ECHL TEAM

    A former player with the St. John’s Maple Leafs is interested in coaching the new East Coast Hockey League team that will play in St. John’s.   Rich Chernomaz played two seasons with the St John’s Maple Leafs  in 1993 and 1994   He scored 45 goals and 110 points his first season and was named to the AHL First All-Star Team and won the Les Cunningham Award as the league’s most valuable player.   Darryl Budgell scored 18 points and Fougere Menchenton Architecture beat Chislett Whitten Law 69-56 in Metro Basketball League play Tuesday  night. Paul Morgan of the losers was the games top scorer with 21 points.      Jeremy McCarthy hooped 21 points and Steve Torraville added 19 and M5 downed Marco Construction 53-41. Brad Drover scored 12 points for the losers.   Veteran Brian Kielly netted 17 points as Dr Leslie Moss Professional Medical Corporation win by ten 57-47 over Maries.
